Role: Senior Pastor
Background: Luke is eager to meet you. When you visit The Journey, he will nearly always be waiting to greet people by the front entrance, and loves connecting with individuals after the service at the front of the sanctuary. Luke is passionate about preaching the word, growing in humility, and developing effective servant leaders for God's kingdom. He has served as the Senior Pastor of The Journey Church since Oct, 2019. Before that he was a staff pastor at Kentwood Community Church in Grand Rapids, MI for 3 years. He married his wife Amanda in 2010, and they adopted their son Marcus as an infant in 2016. He holds a Master's of Education from Western Kentucky University, a Bachelor's degree in Bible and Theology from Kuyper College, and is ordained through the Wesleyan Church.
Hobbies: Luke loves reading, playing with his boy Marcus, and cooking. If you like to cook, you can check out some of his family favorite recipes here. Watch out! Some are spicy.
Role: Assistant Pastor
Molly is the Spiritual Formation's Director (Children through Adults) and leads the Prayer Ministry here at The Journey. She also has a big heart for helping people. Pastor Molly and her family are long-time residents of Traverse City. She and her Husband Larry have three adult children, one happy toddler and two beautiful grandchildren. Life truly is a journey.
Role: Youth Leader
Background: Brandon would love to meet and talk with you. You can usually find him in the lobby before and after church! Brandon has a real passion for student ministry and came on at The Journey as Youth Leader in September of 2019. Previously Brandon was Youth Pastor at SonLife Wesleyan where he served for 15 years. Brandon and his wife Shanna married in 2009. In 2012, Brandon and Shanna had a daughter, Raelynn. Brandon has taken classes through the Wesleyan Church both through flame and NMI and is looking forward to see what God is going to do here at The Journey.
Hobbies: Brandon is an avid Michigan fan (GO BLUE!). He loves football and coached 7th grade football at Benze Central for 6 years. He likes to mountain bike, and play basketball every once and a while! He also likes to follow Supercross, and also likes to ski. Role: Worship Leader
Background: Lisa is excited to worship with you! On a Sunday morning, you will find her leading vocally during the musical portion of our service. During the week, she prepares the music and loves to come up with creative ways to make the message sink in. Lisa has been a part of the music ministry at The Journey since 1991. She is especially drawn closer to God through lyrics. Her favorite artist is David Crowder. Listen to his creative music and lyrics here..
Hobbies: When Lisa is not at the church, she is singing and listening to music. She also loves to read, cook, bake, and spend time with her 4 children, as well as her husband Rodney (since 1987)
Role: Office Manager
Background: On a Sunday morning, you can find Maddy in the kitchen setting up the coffee and cookies for after service fellowship. While Maddy isn't working, you can often find her in one of Traverse City's coffee shops or studying at the library. Maddy has a great passion for animals and travel. She has visited 11 countries so far, with hopes to travel to many more. Maddy has served at The Journey Church since June, 2019, but has attended The Journey her entire life. She married her husband Richard in September of 2019. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a focus on Biochemistry and is currently working on a second Bachelor's degree in Accounting. She plans to finish with her Master's in Accounting within the next few years.
Hobbies: Maddy loves baking french macarons, hiking, and snowboarding. If you like to hike, you can check out some of Traverse City's best hiking trails here.
